Safeguarding Policy

Safeguarding Policy for Caroline Clark as The Secret Art Club/Caroline Clark Artist

Date:                      19 September 2023
Review Date:      19 September 2024

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers and sessional workers or anyone working on behalf of The Secret Art Club.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect children, young people and vulnerable adults who receive The Secret Art Club services.

  • Provide staff and volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding and child protection.

The Secret Art Club believes that children, young people and vulnerable adults should never experience abuse of any kind. We have a responsibility to promote their welfare and to keep them safe. We are committed to practise in a way that protects them.

Statutory framework

Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 (Section 157 for Independent schools) places a statutory responsibility on the governing bodies of schools to have policies and procedures in place that safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are pupils of the school.

The development of appropriate procedures and the monitoring of good practice in Hertfordshire are the responsibilities of the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board (HSCB) and in Essex, the Essex Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB).

The Secret Art Club will seek to keep to children, young people and vulnerable adults safe by:

  • Ensuring that we are familiar with the identity of the Designated Safeguarding Lead within each of the participating schools.

  • Being aware of the procedures within the school and following them at all times.

  • Ensuring that anything of concern is reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and following this up in writing.

  • Not tolerating child on child abuse (including bullying, gender-based abuse, or reports of cyber bullying, on-line abuse, ‘sexting’ or sexually harmful behaviour) in any way and intervening immediately where this occurs.

  • Any instances of child on child abuse will be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead both verbally and in writing.

  • Making sure that all children and young people have the same protection regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief sexual orientation or identity. We have a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and understand that children with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities can face additional safeguarding challenges.

  • When working with a new school and a new group of young people or vulnerable adults it is essential that relevant information concerning safeguarding is shared with The Secret Art Club.

  • Ensuring that all staff of The Secret Art Club have Disclosure and Barring (DBS) checks and regular Safeguarding training.

  • If the company expands in the future using safer staffing techniques to recruit paid staff and volunteers who are working with children and young people.

  • In light of the Covid pandemic staff of The Secret Art Club will ensure the safety of staff and clients by following current Government guidelines in relation to preventing the spread of Covid and will adhere to the rules of individual schools and organisations.

We are committed to reviewing our policy and good practice annually.
